When you call your Congressional offices, ask to speak with the staff member responsible for health care issues.
Explain that you will be visiting Washington, DC and that you wish to schedule an appointment to discuss issues relating to Medicare Part D and home infusion.
Expect one or more staff to participate in the meeting, in many cases in lieu of the legislator. Remember that staff members are critical to decision making and to treat them with the respect you would the legislator.
Allow yourself enough time between meetings! The House and Senate office buildings on Capitol Hill are some distance apart and clearing security can also take up time. You should leave an hour between meetings to ensure you arrive on time, and are not rushed.
After the Meeting be certain to stay in touch. Write a short note to the legislator and/or staff, thanking them for their time and reminding them of the importance of this issue.
