NHIA Industry-Wide Data Initiative

data

Our critical and long-standing need for industry-wide data is intensifying on a number of fronts:

  • To achieve legislation for an expanded home infusion Medicare benefit, we need data that demonstrates the cost effectiveness and quality of home infusion therapy. Today, we lack even the most basic data about the size and scope of our industry, and this is hurting our legislative efforts.
  • Pay-for-performance initiatives in acute care are revolutionizing clinical practice by directly linking reimbursement to successful avoidance of complications. The movement of these requirements into the alternate site is a matter of time—how will we respond if we can’t articulate evidence-based best practices for our setting?
  • Industry-wide benchmarking is needed to establish best practices that improve quality of care and organizational performance. To discover what’s possible in our industry, we need to collaborate on a large scale and produce the data that is essential to delivering results.

The solution is at hand—The NHIA Industry-Wide Data Initiative

Individually, we can work in isolation, watching our legislative efforts falter from our lack of data, while our clinical practices continue to be driven by acute care-based research…

OR

Together, we can join forces, and contribute to the collective information that will begin to fully tell our industry story—using our field’s own data, as we definitively demonstrate our value in the larger health care picture!

Join the NHIA Board of Directors and the Future of Infusion Advisory Council (FIAC) as we begin our journey toward the capture of meaningful and comprehensive data. Never before has an NHIA data project been better positioned for success!

The Industry-Wide Data Initiative is a multi-phased, multi-year endeavor that is comprised of three active task groups working on the following components:

  • Create and launch a provider survey to establish the size/scope of the home infusion market
  • Proactively identify data CMS could use, when NHIA legislation passes, to measure the value of covered services
  • Establish industry benchmarks for core measures of performance and patient outcomes

NHIA Industry-Wide Data Initiative—Phase I

Phase I (entitled “The 2010 NHIA Provider Survey”) is being formally launched on January 27th—and is foundationally vital to the ultimate success of NHIA’s multi-year Data Initiative itself. Help construct an innovative and thriving future for alternate-site infusion by contributing to the collection of meaningful information to better define the size and scope of our industry—YOU and YOUR ORGANIZATION are critically needed to assist with gathering the data that is urgently required on so many fronts.
