Data Definitions Survey (2012)
Tools and Resources
In 2012, NHIA launched the "Data Definitions Survey" to better understand how providers define key terms used to measure demographics, operational processes and quality. The NHIA Data Initiative Work Group, consisting of more than 30 members from both provider and business firm organizations, worked diligently from September 2011 to June 2012, developing a set of proposed standardized definitions for industry consideration and comment. These definitions were presented to the NHIA membership via the NHIA Data Definitions Survey, which was launched on June 28, 2012 and closed on August 30, 2012. Approximately 25%of NHIA member organizations responded to the NHIA Data Definitions Survey, sharing their perspectives, knowledge, and willingness to participate in future data collection efforts. These responses are assisting NHIA in developing improved mapping and questions for the upcoming Phase II Provider Survey.
