Understanding Common Vascular Devices Used in Home Infusion

Overview of aseptic technique including a discussion of line care, central line dressing change procedures, extension tubing maintenance and changes, and the use of needleless connectors. Lab draw technique will also be covered.

Attendees will watch a demonstration of a central line dressing change as well as central line and peripheral lab draw by a faculty expert. They will then perform each of these tasks in a small group setting with experienced faculty who will provide real-time coaching and feedback.

Home Infusion RN Essentials: Peripheral Insertion and Port Access Concepts

Moving from the basics of infusion nursing, David will begin his session by reviewing peripheral vasculature, supplies needed, as well as the essential skills in the placement of peripheral intravenous devices. Also reviewed will be the most common obstacles in the placement of peripheral intravenous lines (PIVs) and strategies to avoid these obstacles. Following this comprehensive session on PIVs, David will review different types of port-a-caths as well as the proper technique and supplies used in the accessing of port-caths.
