About NHIA

NHIA TO REALIGN MEMBER COMMITTEES

July 14, 2011

The National Home Infusion Association is pleased to announce an exciting realignment of the Association's member committees.  Throughout NHIA’s history, volunteer contributions of members to committee efforts have been extremely valuable in moving our industry forward, while also offering excellent learning and networking opportunities and providing avenues for volunteer leadership within the Association.  The realignment will continue to serve these purposes while also ensuring that future committee activities support NHIA’s strategic initiatives and actions and changes in our field.

We invite NHIA member organization employees to apply for membership on a committee with a mission that matches your professional interests and is of strategic interest to your organization.  See the application instructions below.

Payer Advocacy and Relations Committee

Mission:  Through outreach to private and government payers, analyze, educate and advocate on reimbursement and coverage for provision of infusion and specialized pharmacy products and services to alternate site infusion patients; maintain NHIA’s voluntary coding standard.

Changes:  The change in name going forward from the former Payer Relations Committee is to reflect new focus on advocating for coverage and adequate reimbursement from all payers, especially including the private payer arena.  This new focus will be in addition to continuing the committee's work on reimbursement operational challenges.  Maintenance of the NHIA National Coding Standard for Home Infusion Claims Under HIPAA will become a responsibility of this committee along with other products from the HIEC Committee which has been disbanded.

Leadership:  We are pleased to announce that Jeanne Lugli of Advantage Reimbursement Inc. continues as Committee Chair for this group to lead its transition into new areas of responsibility.  NHIA staff liaison is Bruce Rodman.

Questions:  Contact Bruce.Rodman@nhia.org or 970-247-2017.

Medicare Contractor Advisory Committee

Mission:  Represent NHIA members to advocate for, clarify and communicate on Medicare Part B contractor issues, in conjunction with the industry supplier advisory councils.

Changes:  This new committee, consisting of NHIA “DAC Reps”, will add other interested individuals to the group.  The DAC Reps, which are NHIA's representatives to the DME MAC Advisory Councils, had previously been part of the former Payer Relations Committee.  Realigning the DAC Reps into a standalone committee is entirely appropriate given the high value of their efforts to the Association's membership.  We invite other individuals interested in the Committee's mission to apply for Committee membership for the purposes of advising the DAC Reps, becoming highly informed on Part B contractor issues, and serving as potential backup or replacement candidates to current DAC Rep incumbents.

Leadership:  We are pleased to announce that Deanne Birch of Amerita continues her DAC Rep leadership role as Chair of this new Committee.  NHIA staff liaison is Bruce E Rodman.

Questions:  Contact Bruce.Rodman@nhia.org or 970-247-2017.

Education Committee

Mission:  To develop high quality learning and collaboration activities for NHIA members, and other stakeholders, related to the advancement of alternate site infusion therapy.

Comments:  An already existing committee, its primary activities involve identifying educational agendas, arranging for speakers and coordinating activities at the annual NHIA conference.

Leadership:  We are pleased to announce that Melissa Leone RN, BSN of Coram Specialty Infusion Services continues as Committee Chair.  NHIA staff liaison is Nancy Kramer.

Questions:  Contact Nancy.Kramer@nhia.org or 513-336-0661.

Membership Committee

Mission:  To grow and maintain NHIA membership by helping to ensure that programs and services meet member needs.

Comments:  An already existing committee, it will add a new focus on exploring potential areas of service that NHIA might provide in the future.

Leadership:  We are pleased to announce that Gary Dangerfield of Access I.V., LLC, continues as Committee Chair.  NHIA staff liaison is Russ Bodoff.

Questions:  Contact Russ.Bodoff@nhia.org or 703-838-2678.

In the future, the Association will be forming a new Regulatory Affairs Committee in which responsibilities of the current Standards/Accreditation Committee will be included.  NHIA has also formalized a process for appointing ad hoc member “Interest Groups” to meet critical objectives of the association in response to changes in the field.

The interest groups for TRICARE and Medicare Part D have been disbanded.  New issues in these areas will be handled by either the Payer Advocacy and Relations or Regulatory Affairs Committees as best fit with within their missions.  We encourage members interested in these areas to consider applying for membership in either of these two Committees.  Questions:  contact Bruce.Rodman@nhia.org or 970-247-2017.

We are contemplating establishing a Legislative Affairs Advisory Panel Interest Group.  Contact John.Magnuson@nhia.org or 703-838-2664 for more information.

We are contemplating establishing a Technology Interest Group.  Contact Russ.Bodoff@nhia.org or 703-838-2678 for more information.

Interest Groups pertaining to the NHIA Data Initiative (data surveys) continue.  Contact Nancy.Kramer@nhia.org or 513-336-0661 for more information.

NHIA SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR COMMITTEES AND INTEREST GROUPS

Participation in Committees and Interest Groups is an important pathway to get involved with NHIA.  Of utmost importance is that Committee and Interest Group members are self-motivated to lead/participate in activities and projects and can successfully manage the time commitments for these activities balanced against their other work responsibilities.  Time commitments will vary across different Committees/Interest Groups and activities undertaken.  In conjunction with their company’s support, self-motivation to actively contribute to Committee/Interest Group efforts is critical towards having effective NHIA groups.

We welcome NHIA members to submit your applications for a Committee or Interest Group; please click here. Qualifications are pertinent education and job experience (3-5 years) as related to the mission of the Committee or Interest Group and employment by an active member of NHIA.
