Susette Gjovik Receives 2016 Lynn Giglione Memorial Scholarship for Home and Specialty Infusion Nursing
The 2016 Lynn Giglione Memorial NHIF Scholarship Award for Home and Specialty Infusion Nursing was presented to Susette Gjovik, RN, RD, BSN, LN, a registered nurse and dietitian with the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota, where she has overall responsibility for home infusion therapy management. The award was presented by National Home Infusion Foundation Board Member Debbie Cain, RN, a member of the of Directors, a dear friend of Lynn's.
"Susette considers herself a lifelong learner and as such, is committed to identifying best practices to promote improved patient outcomes and sharing them with her internal and external partners," said Cain, noting that Gjovik aspires to become a CRNI®. Prior to becoming a nurse, she was a dietitian who developed home care nutrition programs for oncology, heart disease, dialysis, and pediatric patients; counseled medical and hospice patients in the home setting; conducted in-service training; and coordinated clinical plans for enteral patients transitioning from hospital to home.
"Susette's decision to change careers and enter nursing was driven by her desire to have a broader impact in a patient's life," continued Cain. "She is deeply committed to delivering the best patient care possible and enjoys her interaction with patients. She has gained the respect of her colleagues at work, who note she is an excellent advocate for patients and their families."
"Thank you Debbie and thank you Lynn," said Gjovik upon receiving the award. "I wish I could have had the opportunity to meet such a wonderful person. I should also thank my manager who hired me and believed in me enough to start the home infusion program—it's been a great opportunity." Gjovik also thanked her husband who she called "my biggest supporter."
The Lynn Giglione Memorial NHIF Scholarship Award for Home and Specialty Infusion Nursing aims to strengthen and promote learning, leadership, care provision, and professional advancement among home and specialty infusion nurses. It honors Giglione's lifelong dedication and contributions to improving the lives of patients and advancing the home and specialty infusion therapy industry.
